April 2024 – Mornington Peninsula and Cape Schank

What a great weekend we had during April when we took to the roads and headed down to Mornington Peninsula and Cape Schanck for a weekend of photography and great company.

Starting from our homes, our first stop was at Brighton Beach for the famous Bathing Boxes. From there we stopped at several places as we made our way down the province. The beautiful Red Cliffs near Black Rock Yacht Club, Seaford Pier and beach where we were meet with hundreds of washed up starfish, onwards to Arthurs Seat for a view of the peninsula before heading over the Flinders to check out the Pier, the Blowhole and the Mushroom Reef Reserve. Catching the sunset at Rosebud Pier before a lovely dinner at Rosebud Hotel. Only our first night didn’t stop there! Surprising us all there was a forecast for some Aurora activity so off we headed to a south facing beach and with the luck behind us – all of us there were able to capture the aurora – a first for all of us but one member! What a great day so far.

Our second day had us continuing on down the Peninsula to Rye Beach and Pier, further down to the Quarantine Station before heading out to London Bridge lookout. Here we were lucky to have some hand gliders jumping of the cliffs for us. After having some fun capturing the gliders, we headed off to Lizard Head Rock and the Dragons Head. We managed to get there while the tide was still out and practice our slow shutter speed photography at the Dragons Head. This has been something I personally have wanted to do for a while, so it was great to cross that off my list! After that we went to Pulpit Rock and the Cape Schanck Lighthouse where we watched, and photographed, the sun setting. Another great day.

Sunday saw us heading home and some of us stopping at a couple of bird places on the way home. Of course, that left us with hundreds (if not thousands) of photos to go through but it was worth it.
