A small group of members ventured to a local event on a cold day.
Well, the weather is certainly proving problematic for Walkabouts this year! Although it didn’t rain on the day of the walkabout, thankfully, it was an absolute horrible rainy day the day before and this certainly had a bearing on the type of day for the Walkabout.
There were a few of us who did attend despite the weather of the day before, with the day breaking out nice and sunny, even if the wind was a little chilly.
The weather also had an effect on the Rally itself, with the number of tractors for the tractor pull and the displays probably a little less than it would have been on a nice weekend, and definitely down on what I have seen there in the past.
Nevertheless, those that attended enjoyed the day with the tractor pull event, the miniature train rides (Sue and I were the first ones to ride it in the morning – just to show the kids out there how it is done of course!), the displays of old engines and equipment, the model train display and the petting farm to name a few. There were also some classic cars on display, and who can resist them on a nice sunny day.
It’s always great to support local events when you can, and I am pleased that we were there to support the Gisborne Steam Railway Club in what is an annual event for them to help raise funds etc for their club and activities.
