March 2025 – Healesville Sanctuary

Well, hasn’t this weather been interesting and all over the place! Our walkabout was set for Sunday 16th this month and after predictions of hot weather on the Saturday and possibly showery weather on the Sunday I was rather looking forward to it. Saturday proved correct with a 37 degree day, but Sunday, well lets just say the weather man got it wrong and by the time Sunday came around it had changed to wet but warm, changing to wet and cold for the day!

Still, four of us braved the weather, because you can still get good shots even if its raining! It was surprising how many people and families were also out, thinking we would be some of the few to brave the weather, but there were actually quite a few coming and going. Of course, its much easier to walk around looking, than walking with an umbrella and a cam-era. But if the Lotus gardens taught us anything it was to learn how to do both.

So it was a morning of dodging rain, but we still managed to check out the soggy koalas, the skittish kangaroo who wanted to stay close to the shelters, and all the water logged birds lol. We stopped for lunch and by then the Birds of Prey show had been cancelled and the weather had turned from wet and warm to wet and cold, so we abandoned ship after lunch. However I was still happy with the photos I did manage to get. As you know we can’t really predict the weather and plans are made some time in advance so it can be a stroke of luck if we get perfect weather, but I take this as a challenge to see if I can still get some good shots regardless of what the weather throws at us – come take that challenge with us and come along to a walkabout. We have fun, even it we are getting wet!
